Mississippi River Network

Mississippi River in St. PaulThe Mississippi River Network: Headwaters to Gulf (MRN), is a coalition of 30 non-profit organizations, funded by the McKnight Foundation, working together to protect the River using a variety of strategies. The work of the member organizations spans a diverse spectrum, including land conservation through acquisition and easements, active restoration of functioning ecosystems, education and outreach and support for landowners and farmers to encourage conservation practices. The list below contains all members of the Mississippi River Network that have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together to achieve these common goals:

Land Goal:  We will restore, protect and reconnect environmentally sensitive lands and will use working lands sustainably on a continental scale.

Water Goal:  We will reduce water pollution, restore the river as habitat, and improve natural processes and features that can reduce flood damage.

People Goal:  We will urge the people of the Mississippi River Watershed and the nation to treat the Mississippi as a national treasure to be protected, restored, enjoyed and sustainably developed, and as a resource that enriches both the economy and the quality of life.
