Lisa works for the Cannon River Watershed Partnership (CRWP) http://www.crwp.net, an organization committed to protecting and improving the quality of water within the Cannon River watershed, which is a tributary of the Mississippi River in Minnesota. After hearing about the 1 Mississippi campaign through the Mississippi River Network, Lisa decided to act on her passion and become a River Citizen.
Growing up in Rochester, Minnesota, and attending college in St. Paul, Lisa viewed the Mississippi River as her own “personal slice of wilderness in the city.” She now lives in Northfield, Minnesota, and finds ample time to enjoy the River Trail System by running and biking.
Though she has completed all 10 River Actions, Lisa admits that volunteering on the River is the most rewarding. She discovers volunteer opportunities through local organizations and the Department of Natural Resources, along with postings on the 1 Mississippi River Citizen’s website. Before becoming a River Citizen, Lisa actively practiced several of the River Actions including reducing fertilizer use, respecting sewer drains and getting to know the River. She also has gone beyond the River Actions and has helped develop programs that target farmers who are interested in river-friendly practices.
Lisa continually practices all of the River Actions because she says it is a big part of her job. However, she advises that it is not difficult to accomplish all 10 River Actions, “if you make it a lifestyle choice, it will come naturally.” Lisa is a model River Citizen and her commitment, along with the commitment of the other 700+ River Citizens, is making the 1Mississippi River Campaign a success. We thank Lisa and all of our River Citizens for their hard work in protecting, preserving and celebrating the mighty Mississippi River.
