Audubon's mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity. Audubon has organized key national, regional and state staff members around its overarching conservation goals for the Mississippi River Watershed. In general, those goals are to enhance birds, other wildlife and their habitats; to improve water quality, focusing on reducing excess nutrients that lead to the Gulf of Mexico Dead Zone; and to restore natural river flows and functions where possible to, among other things, stem the rapid loss of coastal wetlands in Louisiana.
