Tug Fest between LeClaire, Iowa, and Port Byron, Ill. The two towns stretch a 680-pound, 2,400-foot rope across the Mississippi River for the ultimate tug of war. (Over 23 years, the score is Illinois 13, Iowa 10.) There's also a parade, fireworks, children's games, concerts and carnival rides. Aug. 12-14.

Save the date, August 21, 2010 for the first Quad Cities Paddlesports Festival and a sanctioned Guinness World Records attempt to amass the world's largest raft of canoes and kayaks.
The current record is 1,104 canoes and kayaks and Floatzilla 2010 is seeking to put together 2,010 paddle crafts.
In addition to the world record attempt, the festival will include group trips on the new Quad Cities water trails, beginner-friendly paddling lessons and programs, and paddlesports competitions.
